Perseverance Marks Outdoor Week

By the Staff

Cold, snowy weather blew into Pennsylvania just in time for Discover Pennsylvania Week. Our spelunkers stole gratefully into various muddy caves; our architects viewed festive forest flurries furtively, out Frank Lloyd Wrightís illusory windows; our rafters reveled in the foamy, rushing madness of the Youghiogheny River; our “Amish”group braved cold fingers to play volleyball with newfound friends in Big Valley. And so it went, with us as with the snow-covered daffodils dotting our landscapes.

While the weather tested organizer Vicky McIntyre’s nerves, it did not cause postponement. Nor did it deter explorations on foot in Pittsburgh, canoeing adventures, touring Civil War battlegrounds, or most other planned activities. While the fly fisher people could not fish the swollen local rivers, they still enjoyed the pond at Hammabest Farm and other still waters. During May, various members of MediaClub will compile video clips, still photos, journal entries and interviews to create a film about the week’s adventures.
