The Mishler Marathon Run For Second Year

Dr. Grier cheered and Bravoed! So did Mrs. Grier and the trustees in attendance. Even the few mess ups were graceful and for another year Grier’s dancers impressed the masses and received a standing ovation at the end of it all.

For days we noticed students were missing, gone for the day and arriving magically later on in the afternoon looking drained and exhausted. Homework didn’t get done, excitement rose, and, most importantly feet were pummeled down deep into a stage. Where were these Grier girls going? The answer: they were being brought to the Mishler theatre so they could practice for the upcoming performance where fellow classmates, teachers, and families would soon be coming to watch.
On Friday the 21st of April, the entire Grier School was loaded into buses and brought to Altoona to watch our dance team perform. Personally I was pretty antsy to see what this year's crew had put together.
There was a very rounded combination of music and dances from hip-hop, to skat, to salsas, bop, boogie’s, jazz, football (they did a dance wearing Steeler jerseys which just happened to be one of my favorites), finally ending in a tear-jerky graduation song and a dance including the entire company and Grier’s choir adding to the frenzy with their voices singing up and down the aisles.
A very festive evening to say the least, and Grier pulled the whole thing off with fantastic behavior (except for a few whispers made by yours truly during the show) and a great attendance of Grier’s faculty and student families. Not much could have been better (well, the line for the bathroom could have been shorter, but I’m not asking for perfection).
I suppose the biggest thanks should go to our our fabulous dance teacher, Joci, and a recent addition to Grier, Jolene Bartley. The two of you did a great job choreographing the dances and I’m sure the whole school wants to send a very warm note of appreciation. Thank you ladies! We would be “dancing in circles” without you! (Or at least I would!)
Thanks go to Mrs. Lang for music editing, and to a host of other adult help, including the kitchen staff for preparing meals for the road. Of course, hugest hugs go to all the dancers; your hard work, dedication, talent, cooperation and feet made the whole night worth it and all I say is, GOOD JOB GIRLS!!! I haven’t seen such a combination of talent since I, personally, did the dances myself but even still you probably outshined me.
Closing up this article, I want to name each dancer and if you happen to ever run into one of these fine ladies make sure to give them a pat on the back and a foot rub!
