The Lighter Side_3
Roommates Gone Wild

By Brittany Green '08
Stepping Stone, the wonderful new addition to the Grier School dorms, has currently been overtaken by a wide variety of students. Although only five occupy the house, the variety never ceases to amaze me. Take five teens with extremely different styles--a Goth, a preppy horse back rider, and three dancers--and put them together if you want to experience what I have experienced over the past school year.
Opposite doesn't even begin to explain the distance between my roommates and myself. Being a hard core rider, I do not exactly appreciate the art of dance. Likewise, my dancer roommates cannot understand the great magnificence of riding. Now imagine the chaos which emerges concerning TV shows, music and decorating. Our stories about decorating could fill a book!
I can give you the gist of what goes on in the house.
Every morning, there are three times that we get up, early, like 5:45, normal, around 6:45-7:00, or late, 7:30ish. Since I’m not naming names, normally, only one gets up early, three get up during a normal time, and one gets up later than normal. During school days we don’t acknowledge each other as much as you would expect, since we are so accustomed to one another, and we each have our own set of friends.
Let me show you a different way of viewing it.
We have two sophomores, one a student officer who is on the varsity riding team, and one who pretty much knows everything, one freshman, who keeps to herself, and two juniors, one a Goth, the other a very prideful typical junior. It’s a wonder that no one in the house has risen up a white flag and surrendered themselves to another house.
After study hall is normally when all the commotion happens. Someone is accused of borrowing another's food, money, movies, books... the list could go on forever. And with all the differences in TV shows, feelings, religions, beliefs, ideas, music, etc, it’s a wonder we still manage to live together. And, surprisingly, some of us are starting to get along better than ever.
Although I'm not sure if I'm rooming with any of the same girls next year, it certainly was an unforgettable year and I wouldn't have changed one person! |
